E. EMERSON CUMMINGS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
E. Emerson Cummings was a talented, respected teacher at Old Orchard Beach High School from 1956 to 1981. He taught analytical geometry, introduction to nuclear physics and advanced calculus. Mr. Cummings initiated the Old Orchard Beach Adult Evening School with a course in The Slide Rule and the Circular Slide Rule. In 1968, he was involved in compiling the names of Old Orchard Beach graduates back to 1883 and published the information in a booklet for all alumni.
As an Old Orchard Beach town counselor, Mr. Cummings served the community from 1967 to 1984. He was also co-chairman of the Old Orchard Beach High School Building Committee. His name was affixed to the street where the high school was erected.
For all of Mr. Cummings services to the community in the many capacities he served and volunteered for, a scholarship was established by friends, former students, and fellow citizens to honor him. This scholarship will be given in connection with the Alumni Scholarship. The recipient(s) must maintain a GPA of 2.0 for the first semester of college to be awarded the scholarship.
GEORGE LARIVIERE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
George Lariviere was a man who lived in Old Orchard Beach for most of his life, and it was a town and community that he really loved. He dedicated over twenty years working for the Old Orchard Beach Public Works Department, where he also maintained the town’s trees as the town arborist. He was a well-respected member of the community and an ever-present friendly face. Outside of work, George was a very avid outdoors man and nature lover, and he devoted nearly his entire life to studying birds. George was a very firm believer in the importance of an education, especially a college education. Having worked so hard his entire life to put himself and his daughter through college, we help carry on George’s memory by carrying out his desire to help others achieve a college education. This scholarship will be given in connection with the OOB Alumni Scholarships. The recipient(s) must maintain a GPA of 2.0 for the first semester of college to be awarded the scholarship.
